How to Use Pinterest to Plan Your Dream Maternity Photoshoot

If you’re expecting and starting to think about your maternity photos, you’ve probably found yourself scrolling through Pinterest for inspiration — and you’re not alone. Pinterest is one of the best tools to help you gather ideas, define your style, and communicate your vision for a luxury maternity session that feels uniquely you.

Here’s how to use Pinterest to create a curated inspiration board for your maternity shoot.

Why Use Pinterest to Plan Your Maternity Shoot?

A maternity session is personal, creative, and deeply meaningful. Pinterest helps you:

  • Visualize the aesthetic you’re drawn to (elegant, bold, romantic, minimal?)

  • Explore wardrobe ideas and poses

  • Narrow down color palettes and styling concepts

  • Communicate your vision with your photographer

Bringing a board to your session helps ensure your images feel intentional and aligned with your personal style — and it makes the process even more fun.

Step 1: Create a Pinterest Board

Start by creating a new board on your Pinterest profile. If you plan on sharing it, I suggest you put your full name in the title. along with something like:

  • “(insert name) Maternity Shoot Inspo”

  • “(insert name) Luxury Maternity Portraits”

  • “(insert name) Pregnancy Photoshoot Moodboard”

New to Pinterest? Here’s a quick tutorial on how to create a board.

Keep it public or make it secret — whichever feels right for you.

Step 2: Start Pinning Thoughtfully

Search keywords like:

  • “Luxury maternity photography”

  • “Studio maternity shoot”

  • “Maternity poses”

  • “Pregnancy photo inspiration”

  • “Maternity shoot with partner”

As you pin, think about why you’re saving each image:

  • Is it the pose?

  • The lighting?

  • The outfit?

  • The mood?

The more you understand what you’re drawn to, the more intentional your shoot will be.

Step 3: Organize Your Board (optional, but very helpful!)

You can add sections within your board to organize inspiration:

  • Wardrobe Ideas

  • Hair & Makeup

  • Posing

  • Couples/Maternity with Partner

  • Color Palettes

You can also add personal notes to each pin (optional) — like “Love this pose!” or “This dress feels like me.” These notes make it easier to understand what’s catching your eye.

Real Client Example

One of my recent clients created a Pinterest board that was so well-organized, it became the perfect blueprint for planning her shoot. She pinned specific posing ideas, color palettes, and styling elements — and we used her board as a collaborative tool to design each look with intention.

As her session day approached, I was able to reference the board in real time, suggest wardrobe pieces from the studio that matched her vision, and curate accessories to bring her ideas to life.

This side-by-side shows how her carefully curated Pinterest board translated into a luxury maternity session that reflected her exact vision — from the pose to the styling to the mood.

Step 4: Share It With Your Photographer

Once your board is ready, you can send me the link — or even better, add me as a collaborator so I can see what you’re pinning in real time. This allows us to chat about ideas leading up to your session, and I can let you know right away if I have a gown, accessory, or backdrop that matches the vision.

This personalized Pinterest curation is part of the exclusive attention to detail I give every client. It ensures that what you imagine — from colors to styling to mood — is something we intentionally plan for in your shoot.

Pro Tips for Your Board

Stick to 15–30 pins that feel consistent

  • Pin what you’d want for yourself, not just what looks good on someone else

  • Avoid pinning drastically different styles — the more focused your vision, the more personalized the shoot can be
